A cap with a ponytail opening has a specially designed opening at the back through which your ponytail, bun, or braid simply fits – at any height and without squashing your hairstyle. What is a ponytail opening and where is it located?
The ponytail opening is an opening at the back of the cap that is much larger and more flexible than the narrow crescent cutout of a classic baseball cap. On a regular cap, this cutout sits directly above the adjustable strap – so your ponytail can only come out very low on the neck. A true ponytail opening, by contrast, extends across the back of the cap and lets your hairstyle out exactly where it actually sits: low on the neck, at mid-height, or as a high bun on top of the head. The brim, fit, and look, meanwhile, stay those of a regular cap.
How does the PonyLoop® Original's magnetic closure work?
On the Original, the back of the cap opens and closes via a magnetic closure. Here's how it works: you open the magnets, put the cap on, pull your ponytail or bun through the opening, and let the magnets snap shut again. The back then closes around your hairstyle instead of flattening it. The advantage of this mechanism: it adjusts seamlessly to the height of your hairstyle. Whether it's a low ponytail in the morning or a high messy bun in the afternoon – you simply change the position where you thread your hair through the opening, and the magnets take care of the rest. How does the CrissCross opening on the Vintage and Glitter work?
On the Vintage and Glitter, crossed elastic bands do the work – hence the name CrissCross. The bands stretch across the back opening and give way exactly where your hair needs to pass through. You simply push your ponytail or bun between the bands, and they close elastically around it. Because the bands sit under slight tension, the cap fits especially securely: even when your ponytail swings while jogging or dancing, everything stays in place. The CrissCross design adapts equally well to high and low hairstyles – from a sleek ponytail to a casual messy bun.
Which hairstyles work with the ponytail opening?
In short: any hairstyle that needs to come out the back of the cap. The most common are the classic ponytail (low, mid, or high), the bun or messy bun, braided styles and braids, as well as thick, voluminous hair that doesn't fit under a closed cap. The principle also works with curls, because the opening doesn't compress the hair, it just lets it through. The only requirement: your hair should be long enough to tie up.
Does a cap with a ponytail opening fit every head?
All PonyLoop® caps are one size and fit a head circumference of 54 to 62 cm. Also included is a black foam insert – the sizing clip. It attaches to the inside of the sweatband and reduces the cap by about 2–3 cm; ideal if your head circumference is under 56 cm. How do you put the cap on correctly in three steps?
Faster than any instructions might suggest – here's how:
- Step 1: Tie your hair the way you want to wear it – ponytail, bun, or braid, at any height.
- Step 2: Put the cap on and thread your hairstyle through the opening. With the magnetic closure, open the magnets briefly first; with the CrissCross design, push your hair straight between the bands.
- Step 3: Check the fit, straighten the brim if needed – done. No restyling, no squashing, no crooked fit.
How do you care for a cap with a ponytail opening?
It's best to hand-wash your PonyLoop® in cold water and let it air dry. This way, the fabric, brim, and mechanism keep their shape and color the longest – true for the magnetic closure just as much as for the elastic CrissCross bands.
